5 practices to the spiritual side of success
In today’s competitive world, when people think about success, it is material wealth, status, and power. But is this true success? What about a deeper, more spiritual dimension? The spiritual side of success focuses more on inner growth, personal fulfillment, and a sense of purpose.
There are 5 pillars to the spiritual side of success, which can be found in all traditions and religions of our world
the first one is prayer five times a day.
the second one is fasting
the third being of service
the fourth giving
the fifth pilgrimage
These are the practices that help on the way to success.
Let’s think about Prayer.
Prayer is a powerful tool that can help you connect with your inner self and higher power.
I know some people who think praying has to be in the church on Sunday, or many only remember praying when they are in need, in fear, or in a difficult situation.
Many still have the picture of an old man with a white gown and a beard in mind when thinking of praying to God.
Most people do not pray; they only beg.
George Bernard Shaw
Many do not take the time to pray.
In our hectic and stressful times, many do not take the time to pray or are in a hurry.
Taking the time to pray regularly can help you cultivate a sense of gratitude, humility, and faith. Prayer can provide guidance, peace, and clarity and help navigate life’s challenges and make important decisions.
The trouble with nearly everybody who prays is that he says ‘Amen’ and runs away before God has a chance to reply. Listening to God is far more important than giving Him our ideas.
Frank Laubach
I have been looking for quotes that say a lot about how people pray.
Prayer does not mean asking God for all kinds of things we want; it is rather the desire for God Himself, the only Giver of Life.
Sadhu Sundar Singh
Is it not sometimes like Oscar Wilde said?
“When the gods wish to punish us, they answer our prayers.”
Quotes from different traditions
I found quotes from different traditions about payers; here they are:
No prayer is complete without presence.
Rumi
As long as you are performing prayer, you are knocking at the door of Allah, and whoever is knocking at the door of Allah, Allah will open it for him.
Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya
While praying, listen to the words very carefully. When your heart is attentive, your entire being enters your prayer without your having to force it.
Nachman of Breslov
For me, it is a feeling of love and gratitude that opens the heart to a connection and a conversation with the universal mind, God, Spirit, or whatever we name it.
Here I share a 5 step practice with you, a way to connect, to get in a higher frequency that will help you toward your goal or dream.
This can be done several times easily during the day, even while driving and waiting for the green light while walking, cooking, brushing teeth and…..
May it help you to connect.
Take a few deep breaths!
More quotes about prayer;
For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.
Teresa of Avila
Prayer is the key of the morning and the bolt of the evening.
Prayer is not an old woman’s idle amusement. Properly understood and applied, it is the most potent instrument of action.
Mahatma Gandhi
‘WHAT is a prayer? Prayer is sending blessings to all. Also, Prayer is sending your compassion to all.
Prayer is creating an antidote of negative thoughts – it is positively.’ Osho
Prayer will connect us to the source, which will provide and guide us on the way to our goals and dreams.

The next pillar is fasting, which I will write about and have a story about in my next post.

Hi Erika
To answer your question: What is prayer for me? Prayer for me is my conversation with God – just like my conversation with a friend.
When I was a young Christian, I did what you said in the article I just asked His privision. As I become a more mature believer, I may just tell my God how I feel inside: my fustration, my adventures today, my happiness moment, as well as my appreciation. It is so truth that no prayer is completed until we learn to be silent infront of the mighty God. I usuallydo this first thing in my morning , I just keep still for an hour in order to connect to Him no matter how busy my schedule will be on that day.
I would like to know where’s “prayer fifth times a day” coming from. When I was young Christian, I prayed during morning and before going to bed. Now I talk (pray) to Him every chance I can: standing in line, waiting for bus, drinking my coffee, doing my cooking, doing my laundry etc.
I strongly believe that What God wants us to do- to connect with Him every minute of our daily life.- Stella

Hi Stella,
you are right ,I too think the connection is always here ,we only need to get aware of it and feel it more often,it is uplifting.
I am living in the nature here ,for me this is god too and I am feeling connected asking questions and get ideas.
I am sure you have experiences like this as well.
This 5 times I think is a ancient tradition ,usually it is told about 3 time ,the muslims pray 5 times.
I could not find the real source yet.
It is like a discipline to remember God. But times change and today many do not even think about anymore.
This may be the cause of all the depression and fear.
Thank you ,Stella

Hi Erika. I love many of these quotes. Prayer for me is seeking intimacy with God. Being in a closer relationship with Him, and asking for His will in my life. I do pray for others and thank Him for provisions, for my day and for my family and friends. There are so many people and things to pray for. I think it’s always good to seek Him whenever we have a concern to gain insight, peace, and to be filled with His love. Great post, Erika.

Hi Lesly,
yes, it is right as you say it is connecting or I think more getting
aware of the higher power because it is always with us, it breathes us and makes our heart beat .
We only have to recognize that we are part of it .

Hi Erika,
I’m so glad I came to visit today! I love talking about prayer. It’s SO very important to me especially with hectic days. Sometimes I feel saddened that I rush throughout the day then it’s close to the end of the day and I say, “Oh my goodness, Lord, did I forget to speak to you today?!” When I do pray I feel so much better and I know God is with me always. He never fails me.

This is an interesting article, Erika.
While all religions point to varying perspectives of “the truth,” they all encompass prayer as you’ve pointed out.
Prayer can be called different things, just like we have different terms for God. But all traditions, all religions revolve around the power of prayer. It is our way to communicate with the supreme being or great mystery.
I like the quotes you shared here, especially the Oscar Wilde one.

Hi David ,
you made me laugh ,because of the Oscar Wilde quote.
It is true , some people only remember to pray ,when things
go wrong . You are right prayer is our way to communicate with the great mystery.
For me with our source . There can only be one truth.
Thank you
Erika
Hi Erika
Good t be here via my page,
Thanks for dropping by.
Prayer, for me, is a vital part of a Christian believer,
And as a firm believer of Jesus Christ and I believe in communicating with Jesus Christ thru the God Almighty in every day of my life, there is no fixed time as 3 times or 5 times, it is a relentless connection or communication with a loving God.
It is very sad to note that, you said so many things about this wonderful and vital subject in this post, omitting the real thing and the Truth about the real God Almighty to whom we need to send our prayers. The said ‘nature’ in this post is a mere creation of an Almighty God, finding beauty and solace in it is good, but, leaving the creator aside and giving importance to nature is an uncalled for thing. The people you quoted in this post all derived their knowledge from the Word of God the Bible . Even Mahatma Gandhi a Hindu devote, took more attention to the reading of the word of God and he derived inspiration from it. These things I wrote here not to start a controversy as such instead as someone said for different people different opinion and belief on the great subject called “Prayer” So you believe that and I believed this LOL since you called for your feedback about this subject I wrote this,
And I fully agree with Stella Chiu and BG Jenkins and I go with them.
And ha, finally, in short, Prayer is the backbone of a believer if the back is weak, we all know what will be the end result. So let us concentrate more on that without giving some timings or limitations, the God of the Bible can be reached at any moment, there is no time restrictions kept reaching Him out.
Thanks for sharing this

Hi Phillip ,
thank you for your opinion ,
you are right ,prayer need not a certain time and can be done where ever we are
at any time . This times are meant to give a guideline and a discipline I think ,
Daniel for example did pray 3 times . Today many do not even think anymore of praying.
Maybe this discipline is needed again
Thank you for visiting ,nice to see you here.

Erika,
I am so glad to read such kind of posts, but I am not that spiritual. I think doing what you love and passionate about is equal to worshipping the God, and thats what I am doing. I spend most of the time doing what I am passionate about.
Though, I do prayers everyday at once! 😉

Thank you for the wonderful prayer. Such a short amount of time to take for yourself, yet such profound benefits that come from doing it. I did not have a religious upbringing, and during my teens and twenties I hung around people that had very negative views of church and organized religion. Even though some of them participated in pagan teachings. Looking back I see that some of the things they were rebelling against were popping up in their own self described better way.
I have since been on a path of finding my own spirituality which I believe everyone needs whether the know it or not, and are welcoming of it or not.
To me prayer is meditation. Perhaps meditation is just another non religious word for prayer. I do generally ask for protection, but I also ask for guidance. When I ask for guidance I try and sit quietly listening for the answer. Sometimes it comes to me right then and there. Other times it comes much latter when I give myself another opportunity to be quiet and still. Still other times I can be in the middle of an activity and bam it hits me. Right away I know it was an answer to my prayer.
When I ask for protection it is not only for myself but for those around me and loved ones who are distances away from me.
One last comment, last year I was out by myself and a thought entered my consciousness which was “God is for everyone.” That everyone meant not only the ones that believe and attend some sort of church, but everyone. One interpretation of God is not better or worse that another. But is the one for that person or group. There is I believe a great awarenesses coming, I just hope it reaches enough of us in time to help the planet grow.

Hi Lawrence,
I see you have been on a quest yourself . I am too on it my whole life .
I was very early in my life confronted with this and went on a search .
My family too was not religious and I remember my grandfather always not
happy with the church, which I think had to do with what happen during war.
As you know churches always are with the power. I was born in a protestant
family and I had despite of my family not religious to go to confirmation and my
experiences in this time ,repelled me totally. I always did read a lot of
books even as a kid . One of my grandmothers lived in south Germany where
most are catholic in the only protestant church which had only 6 benches and
what I heard there was not nice either. When I married and went to Iran ,there
was a new religion to discover and I studied others too. I found my own spirituality.
I saw how religion destroys whole generations of beautiful young people.
We have to let go of this separation ,for me all are humans and we all come
from one source and you are right there is awareness coming .
There are people who grew up with spirituality and have an amazing
Kindness and greatness and there are people who experience kind of
awakenings. I am sure we are in a time of change. I could write a lot
of stories, but it is difficult for me to find the right words ,not to
repel people.I am happy you can find you answers and are on the right path .
Thank you
