When have you looked in the mirror?
Maybe you looked in the mirror this morning. When you look in the mirror, you see the person who is responsible for your life.
If we want to change the world, we have to start with the person we see every morning when we look in the mirror. We are responsible not only for our life but also for what we send out into the world.
Our friend Ryan Biddulph shares his thoughts with us. Let’s see what he saw when he looked in the mirror.
Thank you, Ryan
Have You Looked in the Mirror?
I am one with you.
You are one with me.
We are one. And we are connected. We are one living presence. Accepting this truth is both freeing and unfortunate. Freeing to our beings because we realize our true nature. But unfortunate to the ego because ego hates releasing the poisonous habit of blaming other human beings for any aspect of their lives.
Pay close attention to politicians. People criticize politicians for any number of reasons. I do too sometimes. But I am one with politicians. Criticizing politicians is really me criticizing me. Politicians serve as mirrors; like every human being who ever lived. Humans mirror back your thoughts and feelings to you. What you hate in fellow humans you hate in yourself.
Do not blame
For whatever reason, as collective consciousness shifts, we seem to be electing perhaps the most polarizing crop of politicians in the history of civilization. But do not blame the politicians for behaving as politicians behave; blame yourself for hating yourself because hate you harbor toward any human being is hate you have for yourself. Why? You and the politician are one.
Donald Trump is as much a part of you as your hand. Your ego hates this. Your monkey mind, thoughts, and feelings within jumping from branch to branch like a simian after downing 5 espressos, deeply crave blaming Trump, or Biden, or any prominent person in the political spectrum, for the world’s problems. Dictators! Monsters!
But as Jesus Christ said:
“You hypocrite! First, review the speck out of your eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
The Teacher spoke in simple analogies for humanity but knew wise beings would clearly understand the deeper meaning. Christ was a fully realized being. He knew everything and everyone is God, manifest, connected as one. Knowing this, he taught to remove the judgment-fear from your consciousness first, to remove your judgment of others.
Ceasing to judge people negatively actually begins to heal the object of your judgment immediately, on an energetic level. Why? You and the human being are one. Framing the human being through love versus fear begins to allow a little bit more of love into their being.
Jesus had a faultless gaze. You and I are not quite there yet and may never be. But we forgive ourselves for judging people harshly and simply move forward to see humans as mirrors reflecting back to us how we think and feel based on how we choose to think and feel about other human beings.
Hate and critic
Hating a human being reflects your self-hate back to you. Pay close attention to critical, judgmental human beings. Some of the more critical people I observed appeared to suffer childhood trauma triggering immense self-loathing, pain, self-hate, and fear. Each feeling not being addressed, felt, and released for decades created a poisonous brew of criticism prolonging the individual’s suffering.
Harboring hate for other people indicates a furnace of hate burns deeply in your being. Who’s fault is that hate if the hate is in you? Surely, it is not the fault of the person you hate, right? The hate has to be in you for you to hate them or for you to see hate in them.
People who hate themselves hate other people. Hypercritical human beings criticize themselves. People you hate are one with you. People you criticize are one with you. What you project onto another immediately flies back to you like a cosmic boomerang because the object of your hate or criticism is really the mirror of your hate and criticism of self.
If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn’t part of ourselves doesn’t disturb us. Hermann Hesse
Fellow human being
Again guys; every person you genuinely despise is as much a part of you as your right hand or left leg. Stop despising yourself. Observe what your fellow human being teaches you. See humans through the filter of compassion.
Pray, forgive yourself, appreciate others, listen to your gut, do things you enjoy, and remind yourself that we are all loved and connected. – Sandra Lumb
Be kind. Be generous. Forgive humans to forgive yourself. I have not gone to bed angry in years because I love and accept myself more deeply every day. I largely accept myself so I largely accept other humans. Of course, my gaze is not faultless. I judge others here and there, hence, judge myself. But I am getting there.
Before you criticize anyone else…..look in the mirror. What you appear to see in them is in you.
