Do you act as a Human being?

Yes, Humans are beings and not Robots, or not yet. There are some crazy people and scientists that would like to change this. Do not let them. It is up to us to remember that we are human beings and can change our thoughts, feelings, and perceptions.

Stay in charge of you, don’t let the outside world control you. – Bob Proctor

Humans Are Beings, Not Robots

I felt calm a few hours ago.

I feel even calmer now.

But earlier today I felt a bit frenzied. Hey; it happens. Humans are beings. No human is a robot. I rush things sometimes. Other times I do not rush things. Beings experience emotions. Unenlightened beings who do not shun a worldly life solely to seek spiritual growth resist emotions, suffer from fear, and sometimes decide based on fear. Been there. Done that. Will do so in the future.

But I largely feel at peace being a……being. I feel good mostly. Sometimes I feel bad. I am accepting of my shifting emotions because I am not a tree.

I scanned one of my Facebook photos from a while back. My wife and I visited Playa Dominicalito in Costa Rica. Towering palm trees – the tallest I have ever seen – hugged the coastline. Palm trees are alive. But a palm tree effortlessly BEs a palm tree. Human beings find the being bit a little trickier unless enlightened because we identify with our thoughts, feelings, bodies, and even actions.

But the tree effortlessly BEs a tree. Trees cannot be bloggers, police officers, or housewives. Also, Trees cannot change their being. Trees can be trees.

You are not a robot!

Guys; you own the gift of being able to change your being but you are not a robot. Humans are beings, not robots. Some less aware, well-meaning individuals offer advice consistent with robots. Do step 1. Complete step 2. Finish step 3. Succeed. Be happy. Be free. Robots mindlessly take steps to reach some objective. Human beings may take steps to reach goals but unlike mindless robots or trees being trees, humans experience a wide range of emotions during the step-taking process. Feelings continue to unfold in a state of perpetual flux.

Most humans become frustrated, unhappy, and flat out depressed during the seemingly robotic, step-taking process prescribed by less aware individuals. Fear arises after step 1. Step 2? You never take that step. Screw it. Just quit already. So….you quit. Hey! The steps did not explain what you do after you face fear.

Few human beings account for being human beings as humans dole out instructions. Few humans advise you that you are not your:

  • Thoughts
  • Feelings
  • Actions
  • Mind
  • Body

Making these realizations requires years of diligent meditation and/or prayer and yoga. Even enlightened beings take this route to become enlightened, dissolving all identification with their mind and its objects and with their body and its qualities.

I learn from enlightened souls daily by careful study, observation, meditation, doing yoga, and by living in humble service to sentient beings. But even a semi-advanced human being like me understands I am no robot but an emotional being subject to changing feelings, desires, wants, hopes, fears, and dreams.

I am human!

I am not like the trees I observed in Costa Rica. One moment, I feel relaxed. I may feel stressed in the following moment. I write these words at 12:12 AM. My ego desires to watch Amazon Prime to call it a night. And my neck feels stiff. My back hurts. I am not a robot. I still identify plenty with my ego, thoughts, feelings, and body. But I write these words because I am aware enough of my mind and body to let go of ego cravings, to observe bodily suffering, and to listen to love-heart guiding me to write this blog post.

Forgive yourself for being deluded enough to believe you are robotic, a cyborg capable of following simple steps to achieve success, to establish peace of mind, and to live from predominant energies of love and harmony. Human beings are not human doings.

Take steps but understand how ample strong emotions arise during the journey, including illusory fear and all of its tricky tendrils.

We must be guided by faith. If we are guided by fear, we lock ourselves and our expansion.-  Harbhajan Singh Yogi

“Millions of people never analyze themselves. Mentally, they are mechanical products of the factory of their environment, preoccupied with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, working and sleeping, and going here and there to be entertained. They don’t know what or why they are seeking, nor why they never realize complete happiness and lasting satisfaction. By evading self-analysis, people go on being robots, conditioned by their environment. True self-analysis is the greatest art of progress”.- Paramahansa Yogananda.
